How do you fare?

And he has been a loving, dutiful son to me. I would not place my problems on his shoulders or anyone else's.

I would expect nothing less from him. I would be willing to listen, if you need someone to speak to. In any way. {Including yelling. It's the least Maedhros can offer, since Eärendil refused to take his life.}

You owe me nothing, Maedhros. You raised my sons, saw them happy and fulfilled; you did more than I could and I can see Elrond's love for you shining in his eyes.

Most would question how such a thing can be equal to the lives of many and a ransacked kingdom or two, but they do not know a father's heart. I am selfish and biased.

Lord Eärendil. Your sons have your kindness even for those who do not deserve it. I owe you far more than I could hope or expect to repay.

You have every right to be selfish. I would change much, but I cannot say I would not wish to not know your perfect sons.

I cannot take your memories or your love for them away; I would not want to. Elrond is a joy. He forgives me and seeks my company; he is not bitter and angry.

I appreciate what you did, Maedhros. I am also very, very angry at you. You took what was left of my family from me. I think you understand how that feels.

I do. That is precisely why I offer all I do to try to atone even a tiny amount for what I did to you.

I want to say that isn't possible. But the truth is...

You have already begun to atone for it. Watch over my Elrond and my Elros should he arrive. Keep their stars bright and I shall do likewise.

I would do that regardless. They deserve my best, and I am determined to give it.
